Fashion and the Avant-Garde: An Illustrious Love Affair

How paradoxical is it to contend that surrealism has entered mundane fashion territory? Fashion and art have always kept a close relationship, but as a keen observer, it has felt a bit strained as of late. With a pressure to churn out newness at an unethical and impractical rate, modern fashion has become the proliferation of collaborations as an innovation scapegoat.

But with the help of Jonathan Anderson of Loewe and Daniel Rosenberry of Schiaparelli, the dreamlike essence of both art and luxury can seamlessly integrate into a brilliant creation. And in moments of fashion's past, it may have felt that surrealism is cast aside for its haute couture clients (Kim Kardashian in Thierry Mugler at the Met Gala). But new ready-to-wear offerings now suggest otherwise, as the everyday fashionmonger can enter a fantasy world by purchasing a rose petal heel off of the Bergdorf's shelf.
